: While at the lake, they are attacked by a pair of giant, predatory Giant Water Snakes . During the struggle, Anne’s survival instincts and Sprig’s loyalty are put to the test. Anne initially believes that real friendship involves doing whatever you want, but she realizes that Sprig’s willingness to protect her—even when she's difficult—is what makes him a true friend.

: After defeating the snakes together, they return home. Although they get in trouble with Hop Pop for leaving the farm, their bond is solidified. Anne begins to see that her friendships back home might have been toxic compared to the genuine care Sprig shows her.
