I spent the third day scavenging the upper floors. In the attic, I found the sitting on a high shelf, but the floor was missing pieces. One wrong step and I’d fall straight into the dining room.

I waited until she left, then used a discarded hammer to trigger the trap safely. I had the key, but I was running out of time. Day 4: The Final Piece

I found it in the birdcage in the backyard. To get it, I had to distract her pet—a monstrous, oversized crow. I threw a piece of birdseed I’d found in the shed and grabbed the keys.

I froze. Soft, rhythmic thuds—footsteps—began to climb the stairs. I dove under the bed. A pair of pale, swollen feet stopped just inches from my face. A blood-stained bat dragged across the floor.
